✨How to "Live Creative" by Lysandra James ✨

Happy National Live Creative Day!

I don't know if you've noticed, but I have a thing for the daily holidays. I believe that every day is worth celebrating.

Including the days when you find yourself yelling at the computer because the video editing program you want to use isn't cooperating and you're not super techie and you just want to use the darn thing already!

Ahem.

I'm fine. Honest.

See, I'm trying to make my dream of writing and creating for a living come true. Trying to be authentically me while reaching out to a greater audience. Trying to "live creative" as best I can while juggling a family and a full-time job.

It's a lot.

But it's absolutely worth it. Or, it will be someday.

I'm in the learning phase. Learning and growing and evolving. If you follow me on social media (links below), you've probably seen the results of this phase. My content has undergone a serious upgrade. It'll continue to change and evolve as I learn new things and try new techniques.

One thing you can do to help is to share the things I post - newsletters, Instagram, Facebook, etc. If you see something you like, odds are someone you know will like it too. It's free and takes just a moment of your time, but it'll help me immensely.

Another thing I want you to do is to figure out how you, too, can "live creative." For me, it's writing and creating content. These things light me up. I can talk about books and plot techniques and social media marketing for HOURS.

What lights you up? What could you spend hours discussing and never run out of things to say? Are you passionate about flowers or birds? What about crochet or crafting?

Once you've figured out what brings you joy, what's one small thing you can do today that correlates with that thing?

For example, I have a daily writing streak. It's over six hundred days long. Six hundred days of writing progress.

In a row.

Yes, you should be impressed. It's pretty darn cool.

The smallest, tiniest daily goal I can have to keep that streak going is merely writing one word a day. That's it. Even on my darkest, most miserable days, I can write one word.

Let's be honest, how many days will I write just one word?

Never.

But knowing that's all I need to write for it to count allows me to overcome the hurdle of getting started. That's the hardest thing for me to do. Once I start, though, the momentum kicks in and the next thing I know, I've written 1500 words and I've gotten so lost in my story I've forgotten what day it is.

I spend the rest of my day on a writer's high, relishing in the joy that results from doing something I love.

I want that for you, too. So much.

My challenge for you is to sit down and list all the creative things that bring you joy. Make the smallest, easiest daily goal to do at least one of those things each and every day. A single brush stroke. A needlepoint stitch. Whisper sweet nothings to one house plant.

Or write one word.

Because those tiny little things add up. One day at a time.

So, my friend, how are you going to "live creative?"

  • Line edits for Truthtaker are now complete. On to proofreading! Cover design should be happening soon, if it hasn't already been started. I've sent a mockup to my publisher so they would know what I have in mind. If you want to see a larger version of that mockup, I've posted the sneak peek on both Instagram and Facebook. Check it out!
  • I've started the rewrite for Between Shadow & Light. This is another Displaced History book set in more modern times. You may even call it my original Displaced History story since this book is where my magic system first appeared.

Keep chasing your dreams and slaying your dragons, my friends. I believe in you.

Love, Lysandra James
